This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
By the end of the school year I would like for my students to have made significant gains toward their math goals. I want students to not only be able to add and subtract fluently, but to also build concrete understanding on how the number system works. Students will be able to construct and solve real-world problems.
Our students consist of the most wonderful, intelligent and capable students in the city of Saint Louis.
However, they come from disadvantaged background where school is not a priority; survival is. Our students come to school each day knowing full and well that the breakfast/lunch provided very well may be the only meals they have that day. Our staff demands maximum performance and sees our school as a road to excellence, the portal of the 21st century.
At our school, we provide all students with a quality education that will enable them to be productive citizens and contributors to our democratic and technical society. We do this in a broad learning environment that encourages critical thinking, collaboration and the wise use of community and school resources.
This kit will help students focus on key skills, from addition and subtraction to decomposing shapes into equal parts. Our students need to have these hands-on tools to provide concrete learning experiences as they learn best from real-world examples.
All of the products included will help students represent addition and subtraction word problems within 20.
These fun manipulatives will also reinforce place value concepts and count to 120.
By providing these tools for our students, you will ensure that they will be engaged, active participants in the learning process! The more they stay engaged, the more they understand and move toward meeting their goals.
