My Students

Students learn best when they are highly motivated and engaged in their learning. Hands on activities and working in groups with their peers are 2 ways to engage and motivate students to deepen their understanding.

I am a special education teacher working in an urban elementary school.

I work with students in whole class settings in grades K, 1 and 2. Each class has a different set of diverse learners with varying needs. One thing they all have in common is a love of learning! It is my job as their teacher to make sure their different needs are being met and they are enjoying the learning process.

My Project

By providing my students with resources like the Math Work Stations: Independent Learning You Can Count On, my students will feel more excited about math! Using hands on materials helps students helps students connect between concrete and abstract ideas. Working in small groups allows the students a greater chance to ask and answer questions they have about math, that may not otherwise get addressed in a whole group setting.

These materials will help my students connect concrete and abstract math ideas, build their number sense and math fluency and give them the confidence to "do well"' in math.

Working in small groups on a variety of hands on activities provides many opportunities for students to build their understanding through conversations and team work, as well as develop a stronger vocabulary when talking about math.
