My Kindergarten students are eager and hard working but lack many of the basic skills or experiences necessary for school. We are a Title I school, all students receive a free breakfast and lunch.
As they become more independent, they need activities they can complete and assess on their own.
Most of my student come to school lacking basic math and reading skills. We need activities to focus on skills practice and application. Students need to quickly be able to transfer skills into real world settings.
My Project
Kindergarten students have to learn "school" as well as academics. We need to teach them how to work independently or work with others to complete a task. I see a huge jump in students abilities between 1st semester and 2nd semester. VersaTiles are an alternative to traditional skills practice, creates a safe learning environment that increases student confidence.
Kindergarten students love to be independent and able to check their own work.
The VersaTiles will allow students to work on math skills alone or with a partner. Students will be able to choose hands-on learning activities based on number sense: counting, number sense: naming and comparing, number operations: base ten operations, number operations: algebraic thinking, geometry: shapes and attributes.
