My Students

My students are excited to come to school and learn! They are creative, smart, and full of questions. As with most classrooms, we have a wide range of students with different abilities. Many of my students do not come to school with the basic supplies they need to start the year, such as crayons and pencils. For many of them, the structure of the school day and the consistency of a classroom is a safe haven. I work very hard to create fun, engaging lessons that will keep my first graders learning.

I feel it is my responsibility to create an environment where all of my students can learn.

Research shows that young students learn best through hands on activities and play. When you walk into my classroom, you will find students doing hands on activities- playing a math game, building sight words with magnetic letters, using picture cards to sort, and using manipulatives. These allow for differentiation and engagement in my classroom, which is exactly what my students need.

My Project

I have implemented Guided Math into my first grade classroom, so I can differentiate instruction for my students and meet each of them where they are. We are in need of some materials for first grade that will make learning easier and more fun!

Young children learn best when their learning is hands on and allows them to explore.

With these math materials, I will be able to provide the concrete experiences they need with math in our Guided Math groups, and I will be able to have enough materials to allow them to try these math concepts on their own. The dominoes, counters, dice, number balance, and other materials will help to teach, reinforce, and allow students to practice those important addition and subtraction concepts they will need for the rest of their education and their life. The Hot Dots pens and cards are an engaging way to practice fluency with addition and subtraction, time, and more. These materials will help me to implement Guided Math into my classroom more effectively, and allow my students the experiences they deserve to master the concepts I'm teaching.
