Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Math can be challenging for many students, but my students are always persevering so they can master the material. They keep neat and organized notes in their interactive notebooks that help them make sense of the mathematical topics when they have to apply it in real life situations. My students work together and support each other in their learning. It is imperative that students work together so they can use the academic vocabulary as well as justify their reasoning.

Vertical whiteboards give students the opportunity to work together with their peers and engage in open-ended questions as well as practice more challenging problems, rather than just mimic what the teacher is doing in math class.

Vertical whiteboards are placed around the classroom and students work with their peers to solve a given problem.

The addition of the dry-erase pads to my classroom will allow students to keep working together in their groups so they can continue to master the mathematical concepts. By having students work together and show their work on the dry erase pads, they will be able to not only make sense of the mathematical concepts but gain leadership skills as well. Students will be presenting their work to the class, which will help them improve their public speaking and mathematical skills. The addition of glue sticks and color paper will ensure students continue to have an organized interactive notebook to keep their notes.
