Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I recently read a quote that stated, "The world of mathematics opens up a world that you never imagined when you take advantage of the possibilities it opens to you, whether it be seeing the beauty in things or opening up more lifelong opportunities." This is what I want to provide for my students.

I am a gifted education teacher in a suburban school right outside of Atlanta with a high population of low socioeconomic students.

Currently I am teaching an Innovative Model Math class to gifted students in third and fourth grade. The purpose of this class is to challenge and enrich these students using a variety of manipulatives, literature, and technology.

My Project

For students, learning math centers are an invitation to independent and self-directed learning. Learning centers are an amazing way to get students to take a more active role in their learning. If designed effectively, math centers can provide much-needed review, practice, and enrichment for students that is differentiated to meet students' needs and interests. Students are able to works at their own pace and these centers provide an environment which will allow students to explore, respond, construct, practice, observe, predict, connect, record, extend, and apply skills in a meaningful and exciting manner.

As an educator and parent, I know that children gain math confidence by exploring math concepts daily, from activities of their own choosing and for their own purpose allowing them the ability to make real world connections along the way.

These math learning centers will provide my students with the optimal learning environment. Math learning centers make math instruction meaningful, empowering, authentic, and they work!
