Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are the epitome of resilience and are the shining lights in their communities. They are coming from all walks of life, and from all across the world. School for them is more than a place of learning—it’s a safe environment, a warm meal, and sometimes the only consistency they have.

With a demographic that is 100% economically disadvantaged, these students will be facing an extra set of challenges this year due to Covid-19.

Not only are they coming from a demographic that is the hardest hit by the deadly virus, but they are coming from families that may be facing housing issues and job loss. This year, these students will have to navigate both virtual and in-person learning and my goal is to create a learning environment where children feel safe physically and emotionally, and are getting the high-quality education they deserve.

My Project

After a school year of distance and hybrid learning, I am looking to bring safety and fun to my math class with exciting flexible seating options! Yoga mats, seat squares, and portable lap desks are all fun and safe options to allow the students to have autonomy over their seating and learning in the classroom. When students are able to make their own choices in the classroom, it allows them to really jump into the learning. I am wanting to build a classroom that suits all learning styles and really gives the students a space to call their own!
