My Students

Our students are mostly from low-income homes in a high poverty neighborhood in the heart of Miami. Most of the students' families are struggling financially to provide for their basic needs. For some families, English is their second language and reading comprehension is a constant challenge for our students. These students have very little at home to help them and look forward to coming to school every day to learn. 100% of our students are either on free or reduced lunch.

Foundation is KEY!

Students in the primary grade levels, Kindergarten - 2nd grade are the very foundation of education! Our students are eager to learn and can benefit from tools that will help them to sound out words and learn to read and comprehend better. As the Instructional Reading Coach in a Title 1 school, I can facilitate this process and bring this love of reading and learning into the classroom.

My Project

These materials will help our students tremendously. The Primary grades K-2 students are struggling to work in centers without the use of computers and Literacy Learning Games. As the Reading Coach, I spend most of my creating Phonics activities for the students who are below grade level to engage students in the learning process.

The students will be able to work independently in centers with the Phonics Learning Games to help them to develop essential language skills and keep them actively engaged.

The students can use the laptop to practice and develop fluency on the computer by accessing online reading programs such as MyOn electronic libraries. The library books will be such a tremendous addition to our primary classrooms and will be the start to a great library.

Having these materials will make a tremendous difference in our students' lives by allowing them to practice and manipulate learning materials that will improve their reading, writing and speaking skills, thereby preparing them for the next level.
