Making Learning Math Feel Like Playing Games

My Students

Our school is working very hard to help students catch up from the effects of the Covid-19 virus and make progress even with the virus still causing many to be required to learn from home. I know the students, parents, and teachers (including myself) are nervous about how the students will recover from the effects of the past two school years.

I want to provide opportunities for my students to be kids again, to have fun, and enjoy learning math through math games while knowing that they are safe in my classroom.

My students have had almost two years of their education interrupted. Many now struggle to learn math because their math foundation is full of holes! They need to enjoy math again-- enjoy learning without the worries and concerns of not understanding the concepts or being so far behind their peers. My 140 plus students deserve this opportunity to just be kids and to continue learning while the adults take care of the pandemic.

The math games and resources I am requesting can be played safely and without the use of digital devices--allowing the students a break from screen time and a chance to "play" while learning and practicing!

My Project

The math games and supplies that I have requested for my students will give them ways to learn while they feel like they are playing. Over the past two years, there has been so much lack of continuity for students' education making it very difficult for them to have strong math foundations.

Math, as an essential part of everyday life, should not be scary but instead FUN!

By using the different games and teaching resources that I am requesting for my students, I hope that I can excite my students to learn math in fun ways that will strengthen their math understanding and ability.

The variety of games and math teaching resources I have requested will help me fill those gaps created by students being in and out of the classroom and prepare them to move confidently forward in their math education.
