My Students

I am the 2nd grade Math & Science teacher of approximately 54 elementary aged children at a small school in Houston, Texas. Of the 350 PreK 3 - 5th-grade students at our Title I campus, 100% are eligible for free breakfast and free lunch. 89% of my students have been labeled as economically disadvantaged and 10% of my students are part of the Backpack Buddy program which sends meals homes with the students each weekend. Some of my students are still displaced as a result of Hurricane Harvey that hit Houston in August of 2017.

Although my students are in unfortunate circumstances, they are worth so much more than the labels that have been attached to them.

My students come through my door every day ready to grow and willing to learn. They are hopeful for their futures but need the tools to make their dreams come true.

My Project

My math and science classroom has just about everything my students need in order to excel this school year. I have already started pouring knowledge into my kiddos so that they can start achieving their personal learning goals that we set at the beginning of the school year. We have been using spiral notebooks to house all of our activities and notes thus far, but they are not durable and have already began to fall apart. Because of this, we are hoping to obtain a composition notebook for each student to posses and use for their math and science lessons.

Our notebooks serve the purpose of providing the students with a place to take notes, a place to practice their skills and a point of reference that they have access to throughout the entire school year.

Interactive notebooks are one of the best practices that I use every year and I know my kids will truly benefit from having a durable one to assist in their learning.
