This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am excited to invite my prospective second grade students to their new learning stations for math and literacy. These tools/ manipulatives will allow the students to practice number recognition, number operation, critical thinking, letter knowledge, oral language, vocabulary and phonological awareness.

The goal for this project is to engage students in activities that will help them focus on an old/new set of skills and deepen their understanding and abilities in that area.

Designing the math and literacy centers will be a vital part of my student learning routine in our classroom. Creating these centers with activities relevant to their learning goal will be purposeful to their growth as learners. Differentiating these centers will allow me to teach level based lessons that are appropriate for each of my new students and to review or pre-teach concepts.

The math center will boost my students' confidence to help them understand abstract concepts and apply math to real world situations.The games will improve their performance as critical thinkers and problem-solving skills through activities like puzzles, games and problem -solving tasks. These activities will help my students learn to analyze problems, make connections and find multiple solutions.

The phonics centers will be used to engage learners in learning their letter sounds, cvc words, build words with digraphs and their writing experiences in kinesthetic, visual, and oral experiences. Studies have shown that designing effective literacy centers allow for students choice, have explicit and ongoing routines. As well promote student collaboration, facilitate student motivation and provide targeted practice for students.

These learning stations will allow my students to build their independence and ability to work with others while working on their math and literacy concepts a key instrument as life learners.
