This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a kindergarten teacher at a charter school that prides itself on serving a diverse population of students Although this is my fourth year teaching, this is my first year teaching kindergarten, I want to create an environment in our classroom that is "kinderbaby" friendly, warm, and engaging!

Working in the inner city is as equally rewarding as it is challenging due to the many learning styles and home lives of our students.

Our students come from several different surrounding towns and have different family lives, language barriers, and learning styles. Let's empower students through art to learn their letters.

My Project

These materials will help me create a kind learning environment needed for students to feel comfortable and excited about learning—engaged students meet and exceed their goals! The reading and writing materials will set the tone for a year full of literacy growth, students will do so much reading and writing this year to get ready for the rest of their student careers. The letter stamps, markers, ad magnetic letter kit will allow students to be creative as they manipulate letters and sounds to practice writing their names, learn the alphabet and corresponding sounds, write sight words and sentences on their own as well as practice these skills whole group. They will then use what they have learned to create their final "letter art." The ten-frames will help students with number sense, learning to add and subtract and practice using numbers. The place value blocks will help students count how many days of school as well as learn to count by units, tens, and ones.

Our students are asked to make a lot of academic growth in just one year.

These materials make reading exciting for an early reader with colors, fun hands-on activities, and engaging games to work with sounds. While the math manipulatives give students a hands on way to learn about numbers, add, subtract, and count. I am asking for materials to reinforce math and literacy skills. This will help students practice daily reading skills they will need to carry them throughout their education.
