My Students

I teach ninth-grade World History I, 10th-grade World History II, and 11th-grade U. S. History to a total of 13 different students with varying special needs at a high school in the fourth ward of the District of Columbia. They are eager to learn, and respectively enjoy reading about the ancient civilizations of Africa and the Americas, the impact of the industrial revolution on the world, and the foundations of democracy that have shaped the United States.

My students inspire me each day to want to be a better person and educator, and to strive to meet their unique needs, by presenting lessons that are multimodal and capture their imaginations with vibrant images.

My goal always is to challenge them to reflect on historical contexts, use their perspectives to examine the world in which they live, and envision how they could contribute to making it better for their generation and others to follow.

I am initiating this project to bring to my students historical images that will inspire them to want to change the world around them in positive ways.

My Project

Teaching history to students with disabilities demands a multimodal approach to delivering lessons. Therefore, the aid of a projector is indispensable when developing lessons to capture my students' imaginations and reinforce what they learn.

Most students view history as being boring.

However, my students' interests peak when I use videos and images to bring alive events such as the American Revolution, the Columbian Exchange, the Industrial Revolution, and the Constitutional debates.

Currently, we share a projector with the school building, so access to it can be unpredictable. My students need one exclusively for our classroom to enjoy unfettered access to lessons that bring history alive for them daily.
