My Project

Our school is in a high free and reduced-price lunch area. Students need daily supplies that they can't afford. When a parent has to choose between feeding their child and school supplies, they will always choose food. The requested items are things that I have tried to get from parents and the school district. But I have been told over and over that no funds are available for these supplies.

My goal is to have these supplies and resources like personal whiteboards available to students daily in the classroom to make the curriculum more rigorous and relevant for students.

My students are special because they are eager to learn and are even willing to help raise funds, but they personally don't have the funds and neither do the parents or school corporation.

Getting classroom sets of these materials will make it possible for each of my classes to share the supplies and materials and personalize the education for each student. Once education is personalized, students can take ownership of their education and make goals to participate, improve hands-on access, set academic goals for learning, increasing test scores and helping students master standards.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work and whether to work with whiteboards, blackboards, iPads, graph boards, books, dry erase markers, or any other individualized, moveable materials.
