My Students

Reading fluently is a struggle for my second graders. My students are eager to learn, but many of them speak English as a second language. Through the use of a listening center and fun write and wipe boards, my students will hear new vocabulary and practice reading at the same time.

My students are a diverse group of second graders from Southern California.

The school is located in a low-income area and not all students have access to reading outside of school. They are eager to learn, but are performing below grade level in reading. We have done reader's theater in class, and they love it! Their families are very appreciative but do not necessarily have the resources to help their children. That is why extra resources like these will be so helpful.

My Project

Reading will open doors to a better future. Capturing their excitement through fun fluency listening activities will bring the joy into learning to read. We read daily with decodables, library books, and their student anthology, but the listening center fluency activities will be an exciting bonus to our every day reading activities. In addition, it will provide support and build confidence that will stay with them for a lifetime.

Your generous donations will go a long way in helping my students learn to read better.

They will build their confidence and skills at the same time through the use of listening fluency activities with write and wipe boards. This will add a new dimension to our literacy program and they can do this during independent work time.
