Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Does yoga make an impact in your life? It also positively impacts the lives of high school teens as they improve their focus, sense of self and tranquility!

My students are international, English language learners from over 30 different countries.

They use their love of dance and movement to learn about themselves and one another, as well as express themselves. Our curriculum includes the study of dances from around the world, including West African, Salsa, and Bollywood dances. Students at the school are adapting to their new country in a major U.S. city, learning everything from public transportation to how to apply to college. Dance provides them with a physical outlet and form of artistic expression while encouraging them to be agents of change!

My Project

Students will use the yoga blocks and yoga straps to help them study yoga. This will allow them to improve their focus, tranquility, flexibility and strength. The blocks and straps will especially aid my students with less flexibility, encouraging them to work where they are in each pose as "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

This project will help my classroom to be better equipped to help serve my students in their passion for movement and self-awareness.

Students will be more encouraged to study yoga with props that will allow them to do more challenging poses.
