This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our library is a place of fun, excitement, and exploration for students Pre-K to fifth grade. We are a Title 1 school with a high poverty rate located in a large district with very little funding. Our students love to explore and make connections with the real world.
Having Scholastic News in the library will greatly increase student learning and engagement as they will be able to explore people, places and current events to broaden their overall knowledge about the world around them.
Our students love learning and collaborating with each other over non-fiction texts. Please donate to our project, so every child can have an opportunity to learn about the world around them.
My Project
Having Scholastic magazines and companion nonfiction text will allow me to create lessons that are meaningful and engaging for PreK, Kindergarten, and first grade students.
Most of my students come from low income households and have very little experience outside of their communities.
In order for students to make connections to the world around them they need materials that engage and hold their interest.
Scholastic magazines offer articles and activities that correlate with curriculum topics and library standards making them the perfect tool for librarians to use in order to enhance lower elementary lessons by making them meaningful and fun.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
