Our students come to us with a variety of background experiences that help shape them as learners. To meet the needs of all learners and help them achieve academic success, we need to have a variety of tools to help engage them in the content and make concepts accessible to all. During these times where the location of the learning environment and method of delivering instruction is so fluid, this is even more true. BrainPOP is one of these tools.
My Project
What is BrainPOP?
BrainPOP is an award-winning online platform that spans a wide range of content areas including Science, Math, Social Studies, English Language Arts, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Music, Health, Reading, Writing, and English as a Second Language.
Through engaging videos, practices quizzes, games, primary source documents, etc. students can broaden their understanding of standards-aligned content.
All educators and students in our school community can use BrainPOP in numerous ways, from introducing a new lesson or topic to illustrating complex subject matter to reviewing before a test. Content is carefully mapped and aligned to our academic standards.
According to the BrainPOP website “A 2009 research project conducted by SEG Research found that students in classes using BrainPOP made significant improvement in Science, Reading Comprehension, Language, and Vocabulary as compared to students in classes that did not use BrainPOP. BrainPOP was found to be equally effective for boys and girls; students of different ethnicities; and both students receiving free or reduced lunch services and those not.”
During these unique times, where students may be working more independently, a proven resource such as BrainPOP will provide access to high-quality academic content no matter where their learning is taking place.
