My Students

The students at our school are constantly working toward being stewards of our watershed, empowered decision makers, historians and conscientious community members. We are located in south-central Montana, just north of Yellowstone National Park. We are an active, artsy, outdoorsy and environmentally aware community. Being engaged with our "backyard" keeps us connected to our community.

Our daily goal is to explore learning through personal experience.

My Project

People of all ages need age appropriate access to books about money management. The 3rd through 5th graders at our school are consumers and need to learn financial literacy skills as they become more active with saving, spending and sharing their wealth.

We have choices when we have money.

The books in the shopping cart reflect fiction and nonfiction financial knowledge that learners need assess to. Being able to select the titles listed here for further reading on financial situations will not only build individual literacy rates, but overall financial understanding.

Often times we don't realize how "rich" we are and that we have choices about what to do with our money. Investing, saving or spending and needs verses wants are things to consider when making purchases. Where did this dollar come from and what did it take to earn it? Questions to consider when planning a financial future.

Reading about experiences with money will help young people think about the value of the dollar. Having access to financial literacy books in the library will also support teacher lessons going on in classrooms. Classrooms have class cash, or other tokens/tickets, that are earned by doing jobs or other incentives. Students then have to process how to invest, save or spend their "cash." Through simulations students experience the changing value of the dollar during such events as the stock market crash.
