Help Mrs. Braswell

I teach Environmental Science at a high school in Winston-Salem. Our student body is comprised of students that come from hard-working families mostly from the rural parts of our county. Close to 30% of my students receive free or reduced lunch and our population is quite diverse with an ESL (English as a Second Language) program for our county. I am always looking for ways to supplement lessons and labs about the environment to "hook" students into the topic we are studying. I found a video "Gutted; The Demise of Scotland's Fishing Industry" about over-fishing and the consequences it has on a community that has trawled for fish for centuries. The community is caught between governmental policies and just plain earning a living. PBS has a wonderful activity to introduce the lesson, an activity that parallels the video and a "photo essay" to summarize the lesson. My students would love to see the parallels of this community and major fishing towns here in North Carolina. I usually buy my own resources, but this particular video is out of my budget, please help me "catch the big one" by giving me some "bait"!
