Making a Read (Identifying Defenses)

My students need SKLZ D-Man Defensive Mannequin to serve as visual aids for imaginary defenders. My students are beginners and have difficulties making the proper "reads" on the basketball court.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a special bunch because they are committed to making the Basketball program, the school and the world a better place. These young men are great student-athletes which believe in hard work and persistence. These student-athletes will be great advocates to society which is what makes them special. Our students are held to a high standard in our schools due to the fact they are athletes. The school community works diligently to hold our student-athletes to the highest of standards as well as enriching the school culture.

My Project

My students will improve their school lives by making identifications on the basketball court. Sports and the classroom are heavily correlated. If a student can make a "read" on the court he will be able to make reads in the classroom. Being able to read the court will allow student-athletes to identify situations in the real world. Students will know when they are walking in to a hazardous zone as well as a safe zone on and off the court. I am a firm believer that sports help shape confidence and build awareness. I know for a fact these defensive mannequins will help our students improve on and off the court immensely.
