My Students

My robotics team is an eclectic collection of students from Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate students to students with special needs. We are one of the oldest teams in South Carolina. In recent years, my team has increased from 17 to 48 students. They attend not only my school, but also schools from adjacent school districts and a few home schooled students. With this degree of diversity, you could almost suspect the team to be fragmented. However, the team is very much like a family, with everyone supporting one another.

The team does more than build robots.

They learn the soft-skills that are important in college and future careers. They learn how to work together, communicate their ideas in ways that others can understand, and they learn to listen to others. During competitions, they recognize that they need to cooperate with other teams to build a winning alliance.

My Project

Our robotics team did very well last year – we placed second in the Huntsville, AL. This second place guaranteed an invitation to the World Championship. In Houston, we tied for 13th place in the World Championship. Our team does a very good job building and driving a competitive robot. However, we need to do a much better job promoting our team to the robotics community and the general public.

Branding our Team is a priority for our Media Sub-Team.

Just as the proper tools are needed to build the actual robot, the Media Sub-Team needs proper tools as well to perform their job. Creating a professional presentation is almost obligatory for a robotics team to create an imaginative video. The Adobe Cloud is a “one-stop-shop” for graphic design. The Media Sub-Team is looking forward the prospects of video editing and web-design.

With a full color printer (including a printer that specifically makes stickers) is needed to create displaysand exhibitions.
