Help Ms. Hertz

I am a computer lab teacher at a large, urban elementary school in Pennsylvania. 100% of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch, and the school is located in a high-poverty neighborhood with a fair share of violence and crime. Our school just got a computer lab last year, and many of our students lack basic computer skills and knowledge.

When I put up posters advertising our city's Middle School Computer Fair, four 6th graders approached me with the idea to create a commercial about a clothing line they would design. They already have a vision and are chomping at the bit to get started.

Our school, however, has limited supplies and resources. We do not have a digital video camera to tape the students' commercial! I knew the minute that the students began to describe their vision for the project that this was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to give these children a chance to do something huge and powerful.

Your help will make it possible for my students to bring their dream to a reality and to give them a chance to create a project that may inspire them to pursue a career in technology, television or another 21st century career. This is vital for my students, who do not always have the chance to explore new and exciting careers first hand. Also, 2 of the students are girls, which for me is exciting, as women are often underrepresented in the technology world.
