This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our middle school students are brimming with creativity and a passion for learning, especially when it comes to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). To harness and cultivate this enthusiasm, we are seeking funding for Makey Makey game controllers. These innovative tools will enable our students to design and build their own interactive STEM games, integrating coding, engineering, and problem-solving skills in an engaging and hands-on way.Our students come from diverse backgrounds, each bringing unique perspectives and ideas to the classroom. They are curious, motivated, and eager to explore new technologies and concepts. However, many of our students lack access to the resources and materials needed to fully engage in STEM activities.

By providing them with Makey Makey game controllers, we can bridge this gap and offer them the opportunity to learn through creative and interactive projects.

Makey Makey game controllers are versatile tools that turn everyday objects into touchpads, enabling students to create their own game controllers using items like fruits, plants, and even their own drawings. This hands-on approach makes learning fun and accessible, helping students to understand complex concepts in a tangible way.

Our Students will be able to:

1. **Develop Coding Skills:** By programming their own games and controllers, students will gain valuable experience with coding languages such as Scratch.

2. **Enhance Problem-Solving Abilities:** Designing and troubleshooting their own projects will help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Working in groups, students will learn to collaborate effectively, share ideas, and communicate their concepts clearly.

We aim to acquire a full classroom STEM set of Makey Makey game controller kits, which will allow us to create multiple STEM game development stations in our classroom. These kits will be used across various grade levels and integrated into our STEM curriculum, impacting hundreds of students each year.
