Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school in a suburb of Dallas. Students always come to the library excited about the opportunity to check out books. Many are eager to share what they've learned from the nonfiction books they've read, and are equally excited over fiction books.

The library is in the very center of the school.

Students visit the library every two weeks for lessons and to choose new books, but it is not unusual for 25 or more students to come back each week to exchange their books. Students enjoy coming to the library, and teachers are eager to send them.

My Project

A Makerspace is a place where students can explore, be creative, build things, solve problems, challenge themselves, have fun, and expand their imagination.

Our classroom teachers are busy all day long!

Time, space, and budget constraints make it difficult for classroom teachers to provide hands-on learning opportunities. Many families don't have the resources to provide them either. Our Makerspaces will include projects for engineering, science, math, and art. Makerspaces give students the opportunity and time to learn as they play and create projects they choose for themselves.

The library is the perfect place to offer such cross-curricular projects! The library will provide supplies, ideas, and time for kids to use their imaginations to learn.
