Located in the middle of Schofield Barracks, 100% of my students are military-impacted. These students are moving schools every 1 to 3 years, exposed to many different cultures, and for many the first time away from extended family. School should be a fun, safe space for learning and exploring new ideas. We are fortunate to have a brand new campus and by the end of next school year construction will also be completed on our outdoor play areas!
I want to develop my students' resiliency, creativity, and inquisitiveness in my Maker Space classroom.
When the teachers bring students to my classroom, we will be extending the students' classroom experience through STEM or STEAM projects throughout the school year. This is one of the extra classes on campus that we have to develop the whole child at our school.
My Project
The tape dispensers and scissors will greatly help my students to bring their various MakerSpace projects to reality. Currently I have 3 tape dispensers for the entire to class to share. It does either create waste because I have been just giving a long strip of tape to each table or the students have to wait their turn to get an amount they need. By having tape dispensers and scissors for each child, my students will be able to create freely without having to wait their turn.
Variety of adhesives are used to bring MakerSpace projects to life!
In addition to transparent tape, double sided tape and hot glue guns are the most used adhesives in my room. I need to replenish the my supply to continue creating different projects. One project was to build a cardboard bobble head. The students greatly enjoyed the freedom to create their own bobble head with very little restrictions. It did take awhile, as they have to share a lot of the adhesive supplies.
