My Students

We are an active bunch who work hard at learning.

Students love working on projects together, and coming up with ways to demonstrate their learning. One of my goals, as a teacher and for this project, is to continually improve our classroom, so that it is an environment that truly facilitates the learning of my 21st century students.

My Project

I believe giving students input into their learning, invites an intrinsic desire to learn. Alternative seating and building materials for STEAM projects, provides this and other advantages. First, if students are able to choose a seat that is comfortable, they are likely to focus their effort on their work. Just as adults work best when we are comfortable, so do children. Second, the seats I have chosen for this project allow students to move while they sit, which may help with posture and concentration. While working on STEAM projects, using the Legos and K'nex, students will collaborate, and gain a deeper understanding of concepts taught in all subject areas. They will use their own ideas and the materials provided to demonstrate their understanding. These are just a few of the benefits this alternative seating and maker materials will have for my students.

Our 21st century learning environment is going to be an amazing space for students to learn together.
