This year my third graders have a new science curriculum this year! It is engineering. I went to a special training to learn to teach engineering to my 8 year olds.
We may be in a rural, low income, public school, but my students LOVE engineering and beg to do it more often.
They are designing bridges, evaluating forces, and speaking a language that I am having trouble keeping up with! It is a great opportunity for them to learn and certainly lays the groundwork for a future in a STEM job.
My Project
With this MakerBot, we could design an make REAL THINGS! It will make something that we can really use. Now, I will be the first to admit that it may be kind of cheesy like a knob for our drawer or a doorstop, but it would be OURS and we would plan and design and MAKE it right in our classroom. Isn't that incredible?!
With your help, this project (which even to ME sounds like a futuristic dream!) can actually happen out in the middle of rural North Carolina in a classroom full of third graders.
