Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The school that I am teaching at is a low income school that is 99% free and reduced lunch. We are still able to maintain a high standard of education for all students due to our motto (110% No Excuses). We have received for the past two years "7 Stars of Distinction", which is one of the State of Texas highest achievements.

I am fortunate to teach our most challenging students.

These students require special attention due to their learning disabilities. Even though our school services this population, due to the small numbers of special education students, it is sometimes over looked. Our school has about 1400 students of which 133 are special needs. I work with special needs students in up to four content areas.

Unfortunately, my school was also affected by Hurricane Harvey, some of our technology and classrooms were affected by the rain. Due to this, the Special ED teachers have had to share our office with students needing tutorials.

My Project

I am one of seven special education teachers sharing office space. Unfortunately, Harvey left damage in the other SPED office, which is why we are sharing. At times, we have to also use our area to assist students with tests or other assignments. We are all crammed in here and I would like to see more color in our area. I think it would make the students less bored during tutorials. All of our students are required to take tutorials in preparation for the STAAR test towards the end of the year. I am seeking items to help with tutorials and make the office space more cheery.
