This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Another school year is quickly approaching. This year I will be teaching second grade. Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative. Many of our students are from low income households. For many of our families, the start of a new school year is financially stressful. Basic school supplies such as notebooks, pencils, and folders can make a huge impact on their education. Many of my students do not have access to school supplies at home and rely on our school to provide some of their materials.
My Project
Students will be using these materials inside the classroom and at home. Due to a lack of resources and health and safety guidelines, students will be given their own individual materials. Ensuring students have their own pencils, notebooks, and other materials, sets them up for a successful year. The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Using the workshop model in math, students use the whiteboards to demonstrate their understanding of concepts with guided practice and to record modeled strategies. Some materials also include motivation charts and incentives to excite students about their learning.
