My Project

As a 6th grade teacher going into teaching the same group in 7th grade, my students are going through a lot of changes while attempting to figure out their own emotions and regulation through middle school. Students will be able to support other classmates with the items we purchase.

Therefore, activities about compassion can assist with students feeling emotionally safe and help them know that they are in a caring environment.

Students will learn to work toward alleviating suffering in others and all of the items encourages students to consider the feelings and help those going through a rough time through online readings and connecting with the local shelters/volunteering their time.

With the materials such as the blankets and fidgets can help de-stress students and build coping strategies during a tough time. By having these materials readily available, students will know they have a place to feel comfortable.

Providing deodorants, hairbrushes and other basics discreetly addresses hygiene concerns, creating an environment where all students feel comfortable. By showing compassion towards those facing challenges beyond their control, students learn the importance of empathy and understanding. We will measure the success of the project based on a pre assessment followed by a post assessment about the student's feelings on compassion, sharing and caring.

Having snacks available for hungry students not only addresses their immediate physical needs but also teaches valuable lessons about looking out for one another. Also, they can be used to reward students who are caught doing compassionate or kind acts.
