My Students

My Students

I teach and learn along side visually impaired 3rd-5th moderate to severe multiple disabilities children.

My students are part of the 20% of our schools population who are in special ed and or visually impaired. We are a Title I school where 80% of the students receive free or discounted meals including my classroom.

In my classroom we focus on community, collaboration, vocational skills and independence.

My students are unique. They all have bright spirits that shine and sparkle everyday. My students are differently-abled and express their talents daily in the classroom in different ways.

Some use ASL with verbal sentences. Some use alternative forms of communication such as a button with a recorded saying and others simply tell me with their words.

My students also read & write differently from each other. Some read braille and use a brailler to write. Others use large-high-contrast print with thick lines to learn their words and letters.

We are a class of critical thinkers of all abilities. We root for each other daily to see growth and change in everyone.

Our Motto(s) are: Making mistakes are proof that we are trying and everything new in school hard at first!

My Project

To school or not to school? Well the learning never stops no matter what environment I am teaching and learning with alongside my students digitally or other wise. We always have goals and constantly are developing grit to achieve them !

With this uncertain environment of going back to school or not, I wanted to create a project that could help my students access technology more via the 3D printer, and continue to create a calm and clean space for them when we do go back to the classroom.

3D Items For Their Future

Why a 3D printer?

They need access ipads in and outside of the classroom. So I will be creating a 3D printed ipad over lay that can be tailored to fit their specific needs. Also the accessibility options for them are endless with this cost effective machine. Filament ( the material used to make 3D items) is inexpensive. I plan on making 3D braille signs, braille leggos and so much more!

Clean and Clear of Mind

When we do go back I need to continue to create a clean & calm space for them. This includes utilizing an allergy free and clean space via the cleaning steamer and air purifier as well as the calming meditation pillows .

Why steam?

Steam cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes. Steam cleaning kills 99.9 percent of bacteria, germs and dust mites. This includes E. coli, Staph bacteria, Salmonella and other micro-organisms, surface molds, bacteria, viruses and other dirty things lurking around the house.

Why an air purifier?

Air purifiers are designed to capture particles like dust and pollen.

Why meditation pillows?

My students emotional regulation skills have soared since we have been practicing our daily breathing meditation. I want to enhance that by giving them the right pillows.
