My Project

My students are such a capable group of students who want to learn how to be great members of their families as well as the community in which they reside. I would like my students to develop a deeper level of compassion for those in our community. We will discuss what they know and understand about Ronald McDonald House Charities and then do research and presentations about what we have learned. We will follow the same process for learning about the services of both the police and fire departments.

We plan to create stuffed animals along with stories that we can give to the children who are using the services of Ronald McDonald House charities as well as making bread that we can donate to the Police and Fire Departments.

Through the research as well as having visitors from all three organizations, we will develop a deeper understanding of the services of the individuals who work or use the services.

At the end of the projects, I will have a google form for the students to complete so I can learn more about how they feel about sharing their creations with others. I will have several questions relating to compassion and how they feel they may have increased their compassion for others. Hopefully students will have a feeling of accomplishment when they go through the process of making bread and then sharing with those in the police and fire department, especially since those individuals often have their meals away from their family members.

Giving my students the supplies to complete their sewing projects as well as cooking in the kitchen will help them learn how to share with others and to be proud of what was created.
