My Project

I provide school-based PT for students in schools under the jurisdiction of District 75. These students have a range of conditions (i.e. on the autism spectrum, have significant cognitive delays, are severely emotionally challenged, sensory impaired and/or multiply disabled.) My ultimate goal as a school-based physical therapist is to support these students in their ability to access their educational environment.

This project will be used to encourage and motivate my students in their PT sessions so they can benefit from their educational program.

My focus is on addressing the student's functional needs in accessing the academic environment. For example, some of my students have difficulties traveling throughout the school environment. This is where the balance beams and balance pad in this project will come to play. Implementing ideas like the kids exercise dice with yoga mat are another way to work on improving their balance, as well as improving their core strength, which are skills needed to sit and engage in the classroom. Students who need a visual aid to help them in challenging tasks will benefit from the cones. In addition, they can be incorporated into activities for students who need to work on improving coordination or body awareness. The exercise dice along with the movement flash cards will be useful in addressing gross motor skills that are needed to participate in P.E. (physical education) class or on the playground during recess.

Having these materials will ensure that my kids are having fun in our PT sessions. The variety will give my students more choices so they will never be bored! My students deserve the best and this project will go a long way in supporting them. Thank you for your consideration in donating!
