My Students

"Tell me, I forget. Show me, I remember. Involve me, I understand." This is never more true than when a student is learning music. Unfortunately, we do not have enough classroom instruments to involve all of our students in one class period.

I teach over 650 students in one of the fastest growing areas in our region.

Our school has grown so large that part of our student population was rezoned to a nearby school this year and we are still quickly approaching our capacity. With this rapid growth we have outgrown our classroom resources and are scrambling to find ways to use what we have to accommodate this large learning community. In the music room, where I sometimes see 30+ students at a time, this means that many children are left waiting for their turn to play an instrument and only have a limited time to explore, practice, assess, and correct when they do finally have a chance to play.

My Project

We are in need of another soprano xylophone to add to our classroom instrument collection. This Sonor Primary Line xylophone is the same brand as our existing instruments and their timbres will blend well together. This particular line is very durable, an important characteristic for an instrument that is played daily by 5-12 year olds, yet still gives a very high quality sound. By having another instrument on hand two more students will be able to join in our music making, allowing all students more time and more opportunities to explore and create music on our classroom instruments. This will positively impact every student in our school!

Singing and playing music as a group helps students become more globally aware as they must listen to and rely on one another to create something beautiful.

The more students we can involve the greater the benefit to the individual and to the group! Help us keep making music together. Make our day, help us play!
