Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come from a non-reading background and for some they were thought to have intellectual difficulties. However, when they hear written language read out loud they respond with insight. My students light up and make connections that reveal comprehension beyond a basic level.

The Reader Pen is a really clever device that my students can use independently to develop their literacy skills and enable them to access difficult text.

They can use it to scan the text from a book, exam question or other written text and it reads the text back to them!

My students receive speech and language therapy and I am their therapist. Our focus is language at the middle school level. We work with school standards but decoding is a challenge. While they are learning to read the reader pens will scaffold and motivate.
