This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember doing really long worksheets in math, often not relevant to the "real-world"? I would like to provide my students with realistic math experiences. Technology is just one way I can make learning mathematics relevant to what actually occurs in the "real world".

I have the best 7th graders in the world.

They come to class motivated and do whatever I ask of them. Many of them come to school before school and stay after school to make sure they are meeting their mathematical standards. However, of the four middle schools in our moderately sized Arkansas town, my students attend the school with the highest poverty and minority level. Many of my students come to school without their own supplies. The last few years, I have given all of my students multiple folders and notebooks as well as countless pencils, erasers, and paper. Our school and district also does its best to provide our students access to technology. However, our technology is limited to only a few sets of computers, often booked over a month in advance.

My Project

My students and I are requesting several Chromebooks for use in our 7th grade mathematics classroom. The Chromebooks will be used for podcasting, project-based learning, creating Google documents, researching, creating videos, watching videos, playing math games, and for using math apps.

This project is so important because it would provide my students will access to more technology on a daily basis which would make learning mathematics more relevant to the "real-world".
