Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you love Math? I do and I want the same for my students! I teach a wonderful group of students at a Title I school. Over 67% of the students are Hispanic and learning the English language.

My students love to learn and want to be successful, especially in Math.

Due to the language barrier and other socioeconomic factors, my students are not currently working on their grade level. They do not have the necessary prior knowledge or materials at home and have fallen behind their peers in Mathematics. Many of them are not enthusiastic about learning Math because its overwhelming for them. It is hard for them to learn material on their grade level because they lack number sense and the basic skills. One of the biggest factors in their learning of math is that they are unable to relate it to real life situations.

My Project

I believe that learning should be fun! My project includes a Mastering Math Game Library. These games will cover different operations and provide multiple experiences to practice math. I can use the games to differentiate between groups and enable to students to practice math and have fun at the same time. Another resource that I would love to have is the Solve, Flip, and Check cards for grades 2 and 3. These cards would provide the students with the opportunity to work independently or with a partner on the skills that they need the most. Overall, these activities and games are resources that my students can use and have fun with, all while learning. The HP ink cartridges and laminating pouches will provide my students with additional materials to use for strengthening their math skills.
