My Project

As a Numeracy Interventionist, my primary focus is to support first through fifth-grade students struggling to meet grade-level expectations in mathematics. These students often require targeted, individualized math interventions to address gaps in their understanding and help them build the skills they need to succeed. My role involves identifying their areas of difficulty and developing creative and effective strategies to ensure they feel supported and encouraged on their learning journey.

Many students I work with face unique challenges due to their diverse backgrounds, including socioeconomic barriers, language differences, or limited educational resources outside of school.

These factors often leave them performing one to three grade levels below their peers in math. For these students, math can feel overwhelming and inaccessible, impacting their confidence and willingness to engage in the subject.

To address these challenges, I plan to incorporate math manipulatives and hands-on activities into their learning experience. Manipulatives, such as counters, base-ten blocks, fraction tiles, and geometry tools, provide students with tangible visual aids that make abstract concepts easier to understand. Hands-on activities encourage exploration and problem-solving, transforming math from something intimidating into a subject they can approach with curiosity and excitement.

By integrating these tools into my interventions, I aim to make math come alive for my students. Manipulatives and interactive activities simplify complex concepts and create meaningful connections between what students are learning and how they can apply it in the real world. This approach fosters critical thinking and helps students gain the confidence to tackle challenging math problems independently.

Every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their barriers. Through engaging, hands-on resources, I hope to empower my students to catch up to their peers and develop a lifelong appreciation for the value and relevance of mathematics.
