Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing and despite them having special needs, continue to learn and strive to be great. Some are verbal and others are minimally verbal. Most of my students are in a sixth grade, special education 12:1:1 classroom. I have twelve students enrolled in my class. My students are in middle school. Each student in my class come from the South Bronx section of the Bronx. They face challenges in and outside of school, but they always show up to school happy and ready to learn new things everyday. In the school, each student qualifies to receive free breakfast and lunch due to financial hardship.

My students are beautiful and capable of so much more if they had the proper tools and guidance.

I am constantly amazed by their ability to strive to do better in spite of their multiple disabilities, both physically and cognitively.

My Project

The materials I have listed are basic classroom materials that unfortunately some parents are unable to supply for their child due to financial hardship. So as the classroom teacher I try to purchase as much as I can so that none of my students go without.

My students enjoy using crayons and markers with bright colors to both write and draw with.

I try to incorporate hands on activities such as drawing as much as possible as it helps them retain the topic being taught. My students use 1 composition notebook for each subject. Also some students are able to use pencils however others must use crayons, markers and for some highlighters so they can trace.
