I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement and showcasing achievement in the classroom. Many students lack the motivation necessary to complete their work in the classroom and put in their best efforts. When kids are given the opportunity to work for something more than a letter grade, you can really see the difference in their determination and work ethic. Kids can earn snacks and small pieces of candy as well as extra time in our classroom library (the beans are for our flat bean bag chair and the inflatable chair is to add to our flexible seating) as rewards for positive behavior. They will sit in the library on the bean bags and the inflatable chair to read, which will build fluency and comprehension skills. Additionally, I love giving students the opportunity to announce that they finished a book. The book cutouts would be used for students to write their names and place the cutouts on the wall of our classroom to show they have completed a book. This is another great motivator for students to compete against each other and achieve academic goals. Any donations to make our classroom more fun would be greatly appreciated by us!
