My Students

The students in my class are creative and unique in their own ways. We are an ICT classroom which means there are general education students and students with special needs. We have a very diverse classroom, from students who are trying to learn a new language to students who are dealing with social and emotional issues, to students with special needs and much more. Since we are in a low-income area and have a lot of immigrant families the kids are learning about a new place they are living in, learning a new language and assimilating to a new culture all at the same time. We work in a school where a majority of the students are considered the first generation in America. They need as much support as they can get in this new place they call home and school is sometimes their own constant.

Our students are like our own kids.

These children have been through more than many adults that I know and are so resilient. They need as much support and encouragement from the people around them. We try to provide them with whatever they need to give them a safe and exhilarating learning experience.

My Project

My students come from all sorts of different home life, and I would like to create a safe place for my students to feel comfortable to be themselves. The materials I plan on purchasing for my classroom all help making our classroom a place where the students can feel safe, have fun, and learn at the same time. Some of the students in my classroom are special needs, and I want to give them the opportunity to learn in the best setting they can get. I purchased different chairs and bean bags for students to have flexible seating and feel comfortable. No one likes sitting on the rug and is comfortable with it all the time. Having different options of seating allow my students to be comfortable and yearning to learn.

One of the most important things I learn as a parent is that we need to read to our children at a young age.

In reality, most of my students do not get read to at home. I would like to get headphones for each student to use on their iPads. The headphones would allow them to listen to stories through EPIC, listen to music when they need a break to calm down, and to help them focus when working they are working.

The last few items on our wish list are games and STEM materials for my students to be creative and to learn how to play with each other and problem solve. My students also need to learn to be kids and learn to play. I want to create a classroom where the students can leave all their troubles at the door and be a KID!
