My Project

Since my students are all on the autism spectrum we are constantly trying to find new and creative ways to make the curriculum fun and accessible. Techniques that work in the traditional classroom doesn't always resonate with my students, but that doesn't mean they can't learn. We just have to find the best way to present the material, and having lots of options allows us to reach as many students as possible. We have had a lot of success with hands-on materials, and many of our students are learning to generalize those skills to a more traditional school environment. We also place a heavy emphasis on language and social-emotional skills, since these are areas that are typically lacking in students on the spectrum. New toys are a fun and natural way to teach those essential skills.
