My Students

"The library is a playground for the mind." What is a playground without equipment? Providing opportunities for my students to be creative and solve problems is my goal. Adding KEVA wood planks, Magformers, and KNEX construction set to the library will allow more students to exercise their mind.

Our school is a Title I school.

Over 80% of our students qualify to receive free or reduced lunch. This year I have had the opportunity to see how most of the students' days start. Knowing this, guides my approach when they come to me for class. Since getting the first "Make it To The Library" project funded, the students have proven that they perform better when they are allowed to discover and explore. There are also fewer discipline problems. We have only had art and music for part of the school year. The library has the opportunity to fill that void.

My Project

By adding more STEM materials to our Maker Space, students will have even more opportunities to "play," discover, explore, create, and solve problems. The materials requested will be used mostly for the engineering component of STEM. Students will be able to compare the materials and determine which is best for a variety of tasks. So many learning opportunities can take place with blocks and magnets.

This project will add more opportunities for students to build new understanding.

The budget continues to decrease for programs that motivate students. Maker spaces rely on generous donors to provide resources that will encourage students.
