My Students

How many young people have you heard say that history is boring? How many teens today really have no idea of what really happened to create the world we live in today? The short answer is too many! I even had a student tell me that history is just too boring to read about. Help me bring it to life!

I teach Special Education World History and English in a rural high school.

My students have all been diagnosed with a learning disability that negatively impacts their learning. Because of this, I have to find ways to truly engage them and make them want to learn. These students can't just read about history in a book. They can't just sit and take notes as I lecture about World War II. These students need to FEEL the history. They need to see it, hear it, and essentially become a part of it for a short amount of time.

My Project

By providing my class with a television, DVD player, and a variety of National Geographic history documentaries, you will be helping me to supplement the history I teach. You will help my students make connections to what they've read and learned. You will put images with facts, and essentially cement these historical events in their minds.

These documentaries will not be the only way my students learn about history.

They will still read and research history like other students. By supporting this project, you will be bringing forth another way to reach them. You will make history relevant and real to them, if only for an hour at a time.
