My Students

Our students live in the borough of Staten Island in New York City and learn in a public school that services 900 students from pre-kindergarten all the way up to eighth grade. Over a third of our students come from low-income households, and some of them come from military families. Many of the students I teach have a range of various disabilities and some are English Language Learners. These students are supported by various programs such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, ELL classes, guidance, etc. Our goal as a staff, and especially myself, is to reach as many children and try to bring out the best they can be and give them the best experiences to help them love school!

My Project

I am asking for healthy snacks to give to my Middle School and after school students. With our school lunch being at 10:20 am and all of their core curriculum classes after that, our students have a difficult time maintaining their energy to last them throughout the day. Many of them have trouble staying alert and focused. Hunger definitely affects their ability to learn, so I am requesting snacks that I can provide them towards the end day to help them focus in class.

With these healthy snacks to eat, my students will have that energy boost that will allow them to have successful learning experiences.

It is very difficult to concentrate on anything, let alone something new if you feel hunger. Your donations would provide an essential need to my students and give them the best chance to succeed through the school day.

In addition to snacks, since it is flu season, we have lots of germs flying through the classroom. Having hand sanitizer to kill some of those germs and tissues to catch those germs are essential in keeping all of our students as healthy as possible, ultimately preventing them from having to stay home sick from school!
