Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love creating functional art with my students. It helps them see that their work has a purpose. This Christmas I sent many handmade Christmas cards with a handmade ornament and a hand drawn bookmark. I received so much positive feedback from my family and friends that I want to keep these good vibes going with my students. I think it would be very special for them to mail out cards to soldiers and the elderly in nursing homes with their drawings, cards, musings, anything that they want to express and share with someone they haven't even met that can make their day. They can also create and share their work with people that they do know in their own community. I think it is a great social emotional lesson to show students empathy and how to think beyond themselves. I also think it is a great way to incorporate literacy lessons by teaching students how to compose a letter.
