Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My 3rd graders attend school in a low-income, diverse, and urban environment. As a bilingual school, we have a large ELL population and with this year's recent school closing from March to June, I have many students who are below grade-level and will need a lot of extra help this year.
My students amaze me with their ability to persevere and work hard, no matter the circumstances.
Even though distance learning this past spring, our students were brave, resilient, and independent. My students are so excited and grateful to return to school after over 5 months of isolation and to finally reunite with their teachers, peers, and classrooms, even if some of them may be doing it virtually. Despite the challenges they may face outside of school, my students will still come to school with a smile and a love of learning.
As the year goes on, I want my students to always feel comfortable, motivated and challenged to strive to do their best. These students have big dreams for their future and my goal is to always give them the resources to make them believe that they can achieve all of them.
My Project
As many of my students learn from home, rewarding their attendance, hard work and success is still very important, especially during these times. I've been sending out letters in the mail to keep my students motivated. Often my letters will include a personal shout out and fun stickers picked out specifically based on their interests. Now every Friday, students with perfect attendance get stickers in the mail. My students have been loving it and my attendance has improved significantly through this project.
I'd love your help with purchasing more stamps so I can continue to send my students letters in the mail to let them know they're doing a great job!
This pandemic has really made students feel disconnected from school, but these letters to them are reminders that they are still part of our school community, and we still care about them and all their successes, no matter how small.
