My Students

Our inner-city students come from various backgrounds, and English is not always their native language. They come to school wanting to learn, and they work hard because school is the safest place for a lot of them. We are a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

When working in the Discovery Lab, it’s about taking the science learning from their classroom, applying creative thinking and design skills to a real world STEAM project where students are encouraged to imagine all the possibilities when their creative thinking meshes with engineering.

Students see how the Engineering & Design process can be used in everyday life throughout our world.

When students enter my lab, excitement builds because they know they have challenges that they need to face like engineers, scientists, and many other creative professionals do in the real world. Students love working with their hands to create something or solve a problem. Our school is a wonderful place to learn because of the environment created by the staff. We show our love of learning with our students.

My Project

Being able to see the bigger picture - literally helps students with development of the science skills. It helps them to draw what they are seeing for a technical diagram. Seeing a larger image helps students see all of the little pieces and how things fit together.

One of the greatest places we love to use magnifying glasses is out in our school garden.

The fine details help bring nature to life for our students. We've had other magnifying glasses for years - they're all scratched up. These magnifying glasses are not only high quality but they are scratch proof which will make them a valuable asset in our Discovery Lab! Please help my students see the bigger picture when it comes to the world around them!
