This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a high poverty background. My 4th graders are resilient, dedicated, thoughtful, and optimistic. They come to school each day ready to demonstrate perseverance, accountability, and grit because their excellence
matters.
As someone who comes from a similar background as my students, I identify with the experience of not having adequate resources at school. I never want my students to think that their socioeconomic status should determine whether or not they receive a quality education I want my students to have access to the resources that will make their dreams possible.
My Project
My students do not get much exposure to hands-on science experiment, and I want to change to that. We will be starting our unit on metamorphosis soon, and I believe that having my students raise butterflies and witness their life cycle for themselves will really help them understand how metamorphosis works. The butterfly gardens and corresponding materials will be an amazing addition to our metamorphosis project in which students will research various animals and identify how metamorphosis impacts their life cycles. Overall, I think this would be a wonderful opportunity for my students because we do not get to do science in my classroom very often due to scheduling constraints.
